PTFE Belts in Food Production

Certain food production processes benefit from the non-stick properties of PTFE (Teflon). For instance, high-volume cooking of meats such as chicken and bacon, known as contact cooking or grilling, is enhanced by PTFE belts.

The conveyor belts, typically 25.6 inches or 41.3 inches wide, work in pairs as top and bottom belts. They move very close together, trapping the product between them. Oil-heated hot plates provide the necessary heat to cook the meat as it moves along the conveyor. The PTFE coating prevents food from sticking to the belts and withstands high temperatures, similar to Teflon on non-stick pans.

PTFE-coated fabrics are also used in the production of flatbreads like flour tortillas. A single conveyor belt carries small balls of dough while a fixed hot plate squashes them into round, flat tortillas.

Food Production

Open mesh belts are used in various food processing conveyors, such as those that dry cereals. The cereals are conveyed at precise speeds and temperatures to ensure they dry to the exact level needed.

Beverage Can Production

Aluminum beverage cans have a special lacquer on the inside to provide a food-safe barrier. This lacquer is sprayed on and then cured via heat. The cans convey on the PTFE mesh belt through a hot air oven, allowing air to easily circulate around the cans and the belt for maximum efficiency.
