UHMW Tape | Low Friction Polyethylene Tape

UHMW tape — Ultra High Molecular Weight polyethylene tape — is a high-performance, low-friction adhesive tape used across industrial manufacturing, packaging lines, and commercial machinery wherever surfaces need to slide freely without wear or sticking.

Techbelt manufactures and slits UHMW PE tape to order from our West Yorkshire facility, supplying standard and custom widths from 10mm to 610mm on 33-metre rolls. Two stock thicknesses are available — 0.178mm (TES13) and 0.305mm (TES25) — with bespoke sizing available on request. Orders are dispatched within 1–2 working days; same-day dispatch is available for orders placed before 1:00 pm.

What is UHMW tape used for?

UHMW polyethylene tape is specified by engineers and production managers for applications where a low coefficient of friction, abrasion resistance, and a non-stick surface are required simultaneously. Common industrial applications include:

• Chute and hopper liners — prevents material build-up and reduces wear on bulk-handling equipment
• Conveyor side guides and rails — eliminates friction between product and guide rail, reducing noise and drag in bottling plants, food processing, and packaging lines
• Treadmill belt lubrication strips — provides a self-lubricating wear surface between the belt and deck
• Drawer slides and cabinet bearings — replaces worn bearings with a smooth, permanent low-friction surface
• Industrial machinery wear pads — eliminates metal-on-metal contact on sliding components
• Packaging machinery guides — reduces friction on high-speed lines where PTFE would be over-specified

UHMW PE tape performs at temperatures up to 97°C. For applications requiring higher temperature resistance — heat sealing bars, packaging jaws, or oven conveyor environments — PTFE adhesive tape is the correct specification.

Why UHMW film tape, not PTFE?

Both UHMW tape and PTFE tape offer low friction and non-stick surfaces. UHMW PE film tape has significantly higher abrasion resistance than PTFE, making it the preferred choice where physical wear is the primary concern — drawer slides, chute liners, and guide rails where the surface will take repeated contact. PTFE is the right choice where temperature resistance above 82°C is needed.
